Dr. Kathy Coutinho Owner, Chiropractor

Meet Dr. Kathy Coutinho

Chiropractor • Sports Injury Specialist • Movement Advocate

Dr. Kathy Coutinho is not just a chiropractor — she’s a dedicated athlete, lifelong learner, and passionate advocate for movement as the foundation of health. A local trail runner and mountain biker herself, Dr. Kathy understands the mindset and challenges of athletes and active individuals. Her mission is rooted in the belief that we heal best when we stay in motion — and that movement is key to both physical and mental well-being.

Far too often, soft tissue or joint injuries are met with a discouraging directive: “Stop training.” But for devoted athletes, that can feel like a psychological setback. Dr. Kathy takes a different approach. She works to find smart, supportive ways to keep your body moving safely while accelerating recovery — combining chiropractic care, Active Release Technique® (ART), Softwave Therapy, and motion-based therapies offered in her office including massage and acupuncture,  to help you heal faster and stay active.

Dr. Kathy is a board-certified Applied Kinesiologist, sports chiropractor and has been a certified practitioner of Active Release Technique® for 15 years, specialized hands-on therapy for muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves.

She earned her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon in 1997 — just days before running her first marathon in Vancouver, BC. Shortly after, she started her own practice: Positively Chiropractic. Since launching the business she has helped countless patients reclaim their mobility, performance, and quality of life.

A Leader in the Local Community

Dr. Kathy’s impact extends beyond the clinic. She was a proud member of Rotary for many years, was named Business Owner of the Year by the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce in 2009 and served for 20 years in leadership roles with BNI (Business Network International). Since 2002, Dr. Kathy has been a proud sponsor of EX2 Adventures, providing on-site chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, and when needed, first-aid care at multiple trail races each year alongside her team.

Living the Lifestyle She Teaches

A strong believer in practicing what she preaches, Dr. Kathy has lived a life of movement and performance. She qualified for the Boston Marathon and spent over a decade competing in the global off-road triathlon series, XTERRA, earning the World Championship title in 2010 in Maui — the final year the race was held on the legendary trails of Haleakalā Volcano.

While her focus shifted from global racing to coaching her two daughters’ basketball teams for over 10 years, Dr. Kathy continues to prioritize movement — not only for physical strength but for emotional and spiritual balance as well.

Her Mantra: Always Keep Moving Forward

Whether you’re recovering from injury, returning to sport, or simply seeking to live a healthier, more active life, Dr. Kathy is here to support your journey. Her passion is helping people of all ages and abilities stay active, heal efficiently, and embrace movement as a lifelong foundation for health.

At Positively Chiropractic, Dr. Kathy’s message is clear:
Always Keep Moving Forward.
