Dr. Kathy Coutinho Owner, Chiropractor

Meet Dr. Kathy Coutinho

Chiropractor • Sports Injury Specialist • Movement Advocate

Dr. Kathy Coutinho is not just a chiropractor — she’s a dedicated athlete, lifelong learner, and passionate advocate for movement as the foundation of health. A local trail runner and mountain biker herself, Dr. Kathy understands the mindset and challenges of athletes and active individuals. Her mission is rooted in the belief that we heal best when we stay in motion — and that movement is key to both physical and mental well-being.

Far too often, soft tissue or joint injuries are met with a discouraging directive: “Stop training.” But for devoted athletes, that can feel like a psychological setback. Dr. Kathy takes a different approach. She works to find smart, supportive ways to keep your body moving safely while accelerating recovery — combining chiropractic care, Active Release Technique® (ART), Softwave Therapy, and motion-based therapies offered in her office including massage and acupuncture,  to help you heal faster and stay active.

Dr. Kathy is a board-certified Applied Kinesiologist, sports chiropractor and has been a certified practitioner of Active Release Technique® for 15 years, specialized hands-on therapy for muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves.

She earned her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon in 1997 — just days before running her first marathon in Vancouver, BC. Shortly after, she started her own practice: Positively Chiropractic. Since launching the business she has helped countless patients reclaim their mobility, performance, and quality of life.

A Leader in the Local Community

Dr. Kathy’s impact extends beyond the clinic. She was a proud member of Rotary for many years, was named Business Owner of the Year by the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce in 2009 and served for 20 years in leadership roles with BNI (Business Network International). Since 2002, Dr. Kathy has been a proud sponsor of EX2 Adventures, providing on-site chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, and when needed, first-aid care at multiple trail races each year alongside her team.

Living the Lifestyle She Teaches

A strong believer in practicing what she preaches, Dr. Kathy has lived a life of movement and performance. She qualified for the Boston Marathon and spent over a decade competing in the global off-road triathlon series, XTERRA, earning the World Championship title in 2010 in Maui — the final year the race was held on the legendary trails of Haleakalā Volcano.

While her focus shifted from global racing to coaching her two daughters’ basketball teams for over 10 years, Dr. Kathy continues to prioritize movement — not only for physical strength but for emotional and spiritual balance as well.

Her Mantra: Always Keep Moving Forward

Whether you’re recovering from injury, returning to sport, or simply seeking to live a healthier, more active life, Dr. Kathy is here to support your journey. Her passion is helping people of all ages and abilities stay active, heal efficiently, and embrace movement as a lifelong foundation for health.

At Positively Chiropractic, Dr. Kathy’s message is clear:
Always Keep Moving Forward.

I originally began seeing Dr Kathy at this practice, but since then I have seen at least three other practitioners Dr, Yen, Ashley, And Deonte. They are all wonderful people, and I … More am always impressed. I recently booked an appointment with Deonte for the first time and he was absolutely amazing.
He worked out some of the deep tissue pain and numbness in my hands that I’ve been dealing with for months. Also shout out to the lovely receptionist team who are always so sweet and considerate. I’m so lucky to have a place like this near me

I have been using Positively Chiropractic for a long time and they have helped me through a variety of issues including back pain, hip pain, headaches and recovery from various surgeries … More and leukemia. Dr. Kathy has a great team and I have had many adjustments from her and Dr. Anna. Dr. Yen does an amazing job with acupuncture and cupping to help address a lot of issues. The staff is knowledgeable and very helpful and are a delight to work with.

I'm so glad I found Positive Chiropractic and its acupuncture team. Dr. Yen Truong is not only a highly skilled acupuncturist, but also a practitioner who genuinely cares about … More you as a whole person, incorporating meditation techniques and offering suggestions on lifestyle and mindset. Dr. Bao-Tich Nguyen is kind, attentive, and highly effective in his treatments. The front desk staff are always warm and welcoming. Both the services and the vibes here are incredibly positive––true to the name!

I saw Deonte for a massage. I’ve gone to him for years and he’s brilliant. He is efficient, personable, and incredibly knowledgeable of all soft tissue modalities. He’s great with cupping, … More Graston, and mobilizing my joints!! I couldn’t be happier with my visit to see him yesterday and will be back without a doubt!!!

I can’t recommend the Positively Chiropractic clinic highly enough. From the moment I first walked through the door, I was struck by how professional, friendly, and genuinely enthusiastic … More the entire staff is. The clinic itself has a calm, welcoming atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease — something I appreciated even more because I was in pretty rough shape at the time.
After a back injury left me struggling with daily activities, I was honestly unsure if I'd ever feel “normal” again. But from my very first appointment, Dr. Kathy took the time to clearly explain my treatment plan, making sure I understood each step and how it would help me heal. Her communication, care, and encouragement made all the difference.
Thanks to Dr. Kathy and her team's expertise and dedication, I’ve gone from barely managing the basics to fully getting my life back. Today, I’m back to doing all the activities I love — something I wasn’t sure would ever be possible again. I’m incredibly grateful for the results and for the amazing people at Posi Chiro who helped make them happen. If you’re looking for exceptional chiropractic care, Posi Chiro is truly outstanding.

I have been going to Positively Chiropractic for two years now. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Yen for acupuncture as she is thorough, kind, professional, and genuinely cares about how you … More are doing and feeling! I leave her appointments feeling relaxed and overall better.

I lived with chronic back and leg pain for more than 20 years before being referred to Dr. Kathy and her team at Positively Chiropractic. Within just a few months of care, the pain … More that had followed me for decades was gone, and now I only need occasional monthly visits for maintenance.
Dr. Kathy and her staff are both highly professional and genuinely kind. You never feel rushed, and it is clear they care about long-term results, not quick fixes.
My only regret is not finding them sooner. If you are dealing with pain and wondering whether chiropractic care can really help, do yourself a favor and give Positively Chiropractic a try. You will be glad you did!

Dr. Kathy and her team are an awesome patient-focused practice for holistic body-movement health. I see her practitioners for chiropractic, tissue work, and when necessary, pain reduction … More to improve day-to-day function and movement.
